Task 1 – Case Studies

  • Type of task: Individual task
  • Format of submission: Word (.doc/x) or PDF (.pdf) document in the form of a report

 

Formalities:

  • Wordcount: maximum 2.000 words.
  • Cover, Table of Contents, References and Appendix are excluded of the total wordcount.
  • Font: Arial 12,5 pts.
  • Text alignment: Justified.
  • The in-text References and the Bibliography have to be in Harvard’s citation style.

 

Submission: Before 10MAR, 23:59 CET – Via Moodle (Turnitin).

 

Weight: This task is a 30% of your total grade for this subject.

  • LO1 – Learning Outcome 1: describe the need for a project-based approach inside organizations.
  • LO2 – Learning Outcome 2: understand the role of project management as strategic element inside organizations.

 

 Preamble:

The stakeholders of a project can be defined as all those individuals or organizations that are or will be affected by the execution of the project both directly and indirectly. Stakeholders can affect the outcome of the project and therefore we always say that they have an influence on it. One of the main tasks of the project manager is to identify stakeholders, analyze their requirements and expectations, and manage them in such a way that they influence the project as positively as possible.

 

Definition

The student will need to read the materials that represent the cases of study of Boeing 737-Max. The objective of this assessment activity is to

 

Tasks

  1. Identify the stakeholders that are presented in the case (the ones mentioned directly in the case, and at least 3-4 more that you could research in each case through light research).
  2. Create a matrix of power/influence for the case. They should include the stakeholders that are discussed in the case and also the 3-4 additional you have researched. Explain each matrix.
  3. Identify the reason why the project failed as per the explanations provided in the case. Explain why the stakeholders in each case have played a critical role for its failure.

Student understands the task and provides minimum  project management theory and/or some use of vocabulary. Student understands the task and attempts to answer the question but does not mention key project management concepts or uses minimum amount of relevant vocabulary.
Application (30%) Student applies fully relevant knowledge from the project management topics delivered in class. Student applies mostly relevant knowledge from  project management the topics delivered in class. Student applies some relevant knowledge from the  project management  topics delivered in class. Misunderstanding may be evident. Student applies little relevant knowledge from the project management topics delivered in class. Misunderstands are evident.
Critical Thinking (30%) Student critically assesses in excellent ways, drawing outstanding conclusions adding relevant authors and references. Student critically assesses in good ways, drawing conclusions from relevant authors and references. Student provides some insights but stays on the surface of the topic. Authors and references may not be relevant. Student makes little or none critical thinking insights, does not quote appropriate authors, and does not provide valid sources.
Communication (20%) Student communicates their ideas extremely clearly and concisely, respecting word count, grammar and spellcheck Student communicates their ideas clearly and concisely, respecting word count, grammar and spellcheck Student communicates their ideas with some clarity and concision.
